The Calm Before The Storm

The weather was beautiful on Friday and once Nate and I felt we were pretty much prepared for Hurricane Irene we headed up to the lake!! It was Acton Fair weekend so we joined my parents and some family friends at the fair. We ate our share of fried dough and ice cream... and of course my number one reason for going to a fair caramel apples with coconut on top!!!!!

We woke up Saturday morning and got breakfast at the local bagel place, and then ate on the dock enjoying the calm lake. The water was like glass, and there were no birds singing! Not that I don't LOVE the sound of birds, but I found it odd just how quiet it was.... the birds must know the hurricane is coming, I'm not sure where they go... but it was just very very quiet up there.
Of course until a big brown Banjo found his way into the lake.... :) We took a drive by the beach last night, it's also very quiet. There is for sure a calm before the storm, there was hardly any waves in the ocean!

Now it's 8:00am and my house is very quiet. Both Charlie and Banjo wont get out of bed and neither will Nate!!! It's raining and getting a little windy.... I'm about to make pancakes and pray the power comes on. We do have our generator set and will get by with this storm, but for some reason it will either power just our kitchen, or everything else in the house BUT the kitchen! We opted for everything but the kitchen and will use an extension cord to keep the fridge going. However this will mean we can't really cook.... but oh well. The hurricane is supposed to be gone by tomorrow and hopefully it wont take long for our power to come back after that.

wow, you lost power already... that seems strange, windy here in the back country, so chances are good we will too... but until then......hunker down and enjoy a day where we have to chill....
